Phase 4

When I started referring to my journey through life as a patient in phases I envisioned it as a 4 phase process. Phase 1- being surgeries 2&3& the subsequent time in New York, phase 2, recovering from the prior and preparing for radiation, phase 3- radiation, phase 4 recovering from the above. Now that I am in phase 4 and yet again on crutches, I think that I might have to consider a 5th phase whose title I am still working on. I think that I may have to retitle phase 4 as "learning to be a lady who lunches". Yesterday I had lunch with V-L and her mom, today KHOP, HOP mom, HOP baby, otherwise known as Kim, her mom and Brady, tomorrow lunch with my mom. This whole slowing down your life thing isn't so bad. So everyone, start your creative juices and come up with a title for the newly envisioned Phase 5.

Also, be sure to break out your cute matching clothes, do your hair and have your nails done!

(that is my vision - right or wrong - of "ladies who lunch")

Enjoy the time in Phase 4.

I cannot think of an appropriate title for your new phase, but I can recommend a costume to wear to all these luncheons. Every "luncheon lady" needs a significant hat. First go out and get a large straw hat, preferably in a color such as red or yellow or blue. Have a scarf printed with copies of your "paid" insurance forms. If it's a white scarf, you could have it printed in colored ink. Wrap scarf around the crown of the hat with long tails hanging behind. Take some of your favorite pictures from cards you have received and cut out the pictures and attach them to the tails. Encourage you friends to add anything they see fit to decorate the hat. I'm sure this hat would become a "converstion piece" whenever you wear it.

Seriously, you are a woman of great courage. Sometimes life sends us some pretty awful obstacles to overcome. Getting through them takes all the strength one can muster, but somehow the outcome gives us wisdom and courage and strength that we may never have had otherwise. I pray that you are "over the hump" with this, and that you can look forward to each day being better until one day you wake up and realize you are able to go about your routine as usual. But even though your foot will remind you of what has gone before, you will know that you are a WINNER because you didn't let it pull you down.

Your sense of humor in spite of the pain and the fear has helped all of us who love you follow your progress without weeping(Okay, maybe a little). Thank God for Irish humor! May God be with you and bring you healing grace each and every day.

Love, Aunt Marty

How about-"Pursuing the Dream?" You know, look at where you want to end up, and no matter how painful and frustrating it is now, know that you will get there.

Hey Lisa,

How about phase 5 - "walking forward" or moving on...
something of that sort...
Congratulations on making it this far. And I agree about a big hat for a lady who lunches...
